Katy Perry looked gorgeous in a skin tight bright purple Zac Posen dress as she launched her new fragrance, Purr, in New York today.

The 26-year-old pop star posed for pictures outside at the Nordstrom pop-up event in Greeley Square Park, New York, with a bottle of the new perfume which comes in a purple glass bottle shaped like a cat.

At the event Katy talked about the process of putting together her own scent which will be sold exclusively at Nordstrom.

'I love all the types of scents that I incorporated in it,' she told Just Jared.

'It has bit gardenia, citrus, jasmine which I love, and then it has sandalwood which makes it a bit ambiguous and different for me.'

'I didn’t want it to be a complete knock-off of my favourite scents, so that meant there was a year and a half of me testing and basically me going into the labs in NYC where all the chemists are. It looks like a science class down there! I would ask for different things and quantities of it. I was very involved.'

Newlywed Katy recently returned from a trip to Europe where she performed at the European MTV Awards in Madrid and then the BBC1 Teen Radio Awards in London.

It has been an exciting month for the star who wed husband Russell Brand in a private ceremony in India on October 23 before jetting off for their honeymoon in the Maldives.
