The reclusive designer Thierry Mugler has emerged from the shadows to announce he will be launching his first fragrance in five years, and it’s called Womanity. We wrote about the Womanity website here previously, which rants on about the invisible bond between women, something, one imagines, that is supposedly embodied in this scent. According to WWD, “womanity” is “a made-up word meant to associate with femininity, humanity and city.” What any of those things have to do with each other, and why commodified feminism is being used to sell perfume, I don’t know. Personally, I’m a huge fan of Mugler’s fragrances—I wear Angel Rose and Alien on a regular basis—but I don’t need some pseudo-gender politics to get me to buy it. Reportedly, Womanity smells of figs and caviar, and it will be available online in June for $58 an ounce.
