Studies show that the smell of citrus makes people happy, and fragrances based on the note are often associated with spring, summer, and everything sunny—so no wonder we've been loving these scents lately. But perfumes that stick with a one-note lemon or orange either fizzle after 10 minutes....or last all day and can make you smell like floor cleaner. We've come across two that play with the traditional citrus notes to create more interesting fragrances. And more importantly, we've figured out the secret to our love: bitterness. Fresh Citron de Vigne uses bitter orange, neroli, and pink grapefruit to create a crisp scent. The tangy smell makes us almost pucker our lips like we're sucking on a lemon, but as it dries, it's a sophisticated, woodsy aroma. And the second we smelled the new Prada Infusion D'Tuberose, we felt that same love. Yes, it's centered around the white flower it's named for, but in an effort to balance the sometimes-overwhelming floral, they've blended in blood orange and petitgrain bigarade (a note from the leaves of the bitter orange tree) so at first sniff you get a similar whiff of tangy citrus. Two new ways to wear citrus this spring—we'll spritz to that.
